Procedure SADI-S

One of the treatment options for severe obesity is bariatric surgery, which includes different surgical techniques such as gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and the SADI-S bariatric procedure.

The surgical technique of the SADI-S procedure is performed in two steps: first, a sleeve gastrectomy is performed, in which part of the stomach is removed, leaving it in the form of a tube (Sánchez-Pernaute et al., 2010).

Subsequently, a duodeno-ileal bypass is performed by means of an anastomosis between the duodenum and ileum 250-300 cm from the ligament of Treitz (Sanchez-Pernaute et al., 2017).

This creates an alternate route for food, bypassing a large portion of the small intestine and thus decreasing nutrient and calorie absorption (Rebibo et al., 2019).

What our Patients say

Questions Frequent

SADI-S (Single Anastomosis Duodeno-Ileal Bypass with Sleeve Gastrectomy) is a bariatric procedure that combines a sleeve gastrectomy with an intestinal bypass. It reduces the size of the stomach and alters nutrient absorption to promote weight loss.

  • Significant weight loss: Most patients lose 70-80% of their excess body weight in the first year after surgery.
  • Improved health conditions: Many obesity-related health problems, such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea, improve or resolve after the SADI-S procedure.
  • Reduced hunger: Removal of part of the stomach leads to lower levels of ghrelin, the hormone responsible for stimulating hunger.

On average, patients who undergo the SADI-S procedure can expect to lose 70-80% of their excess body weight within the first 12-18 months after surgery. The amount of weight loss depends on their compliance with postoperative guidelines, including changes in diet, exercise and follow-up care.

Possible complications include bleeding, infection and long-term problems such as nutritional deficiencies. The SADI-S technique has shown a lower rate of complications compared to other bariatric surgeries, such as gastric bypass 1. Roux-en-Y
